During her official visit to Yemen, Ms. Amat Al-Alim AlSoswa, UNDP Assistant Administrator & Regional Director for Arab States, delivered a speech on the International Women Day 2012.

The Awareness Campaign to Mobilize Female Voters was launched by the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Women Department in cooperation with the EC-UNDP Joint Electoral Assistance Project in Yemen.

 Female religious preachers and mosques Imams were trained to support women political participation in the upcoming elections.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and a rich body of international human rights law and treaties promote equal rights for people everywhere to freedom, inclusion, and representation. The challenge is to realize these rights for all in practice.

 New York — In light of developments in the region, UNDP is deferring its upcoming five-year programmes for Yemen, Bahrain and Syria pending further review. The decision was taken by UNDP to ensure that new programmes address the evolving development needs of the people in each country.

On this 100^th International Women’s Day, we can dream of how the world can look if women have equal rights and opportunities to reach their full potential. 

Empowered women and girls have a truly transformative role to play in all our societies, with benefits for all.  Around the world, healthy, educated, employed, and empowered women break poverty cycles – not only for themselves, but for their families, communities, and countries too.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women “UN Women” becomes formally operational on January 1, 2011.
The establishment of UN Women was taken in a historic vote by the United Nations General Assembly on 02/07/2010 and meant utterly to accelerate progress in meeting the needs of women and girls worldwide.

The Training of Trainers Workshop for Imams in Seiyun/ Hadramout Governorate today. The three day workshop (from 4 December – 6 December) was held in AlAhqaf Hotel, in partnership between the UNDP, represented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s Gender and Economic Empowerment project (GEE), and the Department of Guidance and Endowment in Hadramout Governorate.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today to “collaborate for promoting women’s economic empowerment in Hadramout governorate”.  The MoU between the UNDP Gender and Economic Empowerment Project (GEE) and OXFAM GB envisages the implementation of activities and actions to lay the foundations of partnership between UNDP and OXFAM GB relevant projects.
